As many of you already know, Truman was my very special senior rescue. Truman has the most incredible and inspiring story, I just love sharing it every chance I get. - You can read about Truman's story in another post. (Grab the tissues first).
When I rescued my sweet Truman, he was a mess. He was a happy mess, but when it came to his health issues, the poor baby was basically broken. Due to prior untreated back and hip injuries, he was riddled with severe arthritis. He was in so much pain that it took everything in him just to get up from his bed and go potty. He could hardly walk. The amount of medication he was taking was insane and although it helped with the pain some, it wasn't doing much for his quality of life.
At the time, I had just began my journey into holistic pet nutrition and one of the "miracle herbs" I kept reading about was Turmeric/Curcumin. The benefits it has cover a wide range of ailments, most of which Truman had, so I decided to test out a recipe called Golden Paste. Game changer.
Golden Paste consists of 3 simple ingredients (4 if you follow Truman’s recipe and add peanut butter). You can use any brands, I like these - organic Turmeric Powder, organic Coconut Oil (unrefined) and freshly ground Black Pepper. He also liked his made into frozen treats, this was great because the paste lasts much longer in the freezer and serving was much less messy. I portioned the paste into silicone trays. For smaller portions, try these. Then freeze.
I could write a book about how this simple herb changed Truman's life. Instead, you can see in these pictures, the once painfully sad & sedimentary dog, transformed into the happiest "somersault flippin' lap runner" dog he dreamed to be.
The struggle of getting off his bed and walking was gone. He now jumped off his bed and ran laps around the yard.
If this smile as he's running to mommy doesn't tug on your heart strings, I don't know what will! He wasn't "fast" by any means, but he sure thought he was flying!
He ended his daily somersault laps with a good roll in the grass too!
Oh my Truman. You changed my life, sweet boy.
Because of the golden paste, Truman was able to get off ALL of his pain medication. All of it. He was able to enjoy his golden years, running free in his big back yard and playing with his boy, and little sister Penelope.
Rest In Peace my precious Truman. Your story continues to change lives, just like you did.
This is the recipe I've been using for Golden Paste for the past 4 years.
Truman's Tip: Add Peanut Butter to the mix. Dogs love Peanut Butter but may not be too fond of the Turmeric. Freeze in portion sized trays (silicone trays work best) for easier and less messy handling.
