Losing a pet is the hardest part of being a pet parent. If you have ever had to say goodbye to a beloved pet, you know there are no words anyone can say to make you feel better. Often times, for myself anyway, it makes me feel worse. I have had to say goodbye to 3 very special dogs of my own. Each one impacted my life in their own way and I handled the passing of each one of them very differently. I loved them all the same, but there’s a peace with the passing of your pet that you have to find, and sometimes it can be very hard to find it.
In the past nearly 6 years of working as a pet sitter, I have come to know and love hundreds of pets. I have had to say goodbye to far too many of those pets too. My heart breaks for my clients because I know the pain they are feeling. My heart also breaks because I loved their pet dearly too. No one could have prepared me for the day I lost my first pet client. I loved that dog so much, but it wasn’t until I got the phone call that he had passed away, that I realized I would be grieving this loss too, and unfortunately he wouldn’t be the last one. It hit me hard. But what do you say to someone who just lost a piece of their heart? I’ve been there. There are no words.
I had to do something to express without words, my deepest sympathy. I wanted to give my client something they could keep forever as a special reminder of just how special their precious pet was. I remembered a gift that I had received from a client when they moved away. This gift was from the dog :) and I will never forget how special it made me feel. It was this beautiful hand crafted angel holding a dog (ahhh here I go with the tears!) I still have it and every time I look at it, it reminds me of my sweet little schnauzer friend, Stella.
